NEVER AGAIN 02:37
REMEMBERING the 6 million Jews who perished in the Holocaust. The anniversary, marked each year since 2005, falls on the anniversary of the liberation of the Auschwitz-Birkenau death camp in Poland by the Russian army in 1945. One million people died there. The United Nations chose to commemorate victims of the Holocaust on this day.

"Je suis Charlie" is a slogan adopted by supporters of freedom of speech and freedom of the press after the 7 January 2015 massacre in which twelve people were killed at the offices of the French satirical weekly newspaper, Charlie Hebdo.
3.
A series of protests and riots began the day after the fatal shooting of Michael Brown by Darren Wilson, a police officer, on August 9, 2014, in Ferguson, Missouri. The unrest sparked a vigorous debate in the United States about the relationship between law enforcement officers and African Americans, the militarization of the police, and the use of force doctrine in Missouri and nationwide.

Ode To Tim 02:13
WE LOST ONE OF THE GOOD GUYS THIS WEEK . . . TIM GILLERLAIN.

On Saturday, a massive blast caused by a truck bombing in Mogadishu, the capital of Somalia, killed at least 327 people and injured nearly 400. The Somali president, Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed, declared three days of national mourning, saying "Let us unite against terror."

On December 2, 2016, a fire broke out in a warehouse, known as Ghost Ship, that was converted into an artist collective in the Fruitvale neighborhood of Oakland, California. A total of 36 people were killed in the fire, the deadliest in the history of Oakland. We mourn the 36 victims and offer condolences to the families.

We lost one of the good guys this week. I have known Joe Green for 50 years and mourn the loss of a good friend.

NEVER AGAIN MSD is an American student-led organization that advocates for tighter regulations to prevent gun violence. The group was formed in the aftermath of the shooting at Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, in which 17 people were murdered by a shooter armed with an AR-15 style semi-automatic rifle.

There are no words to ease the pain or fill the void caused by this tragedy. I offer my love and compassion and this mournful music in memory of the Las Vegas shooting victims.

LEONARD COHEN died on November 7th at the age of 82. We have lost one of music's most revered and prolific visionaries. “Forget your perfect offering, there is a crack in everything. It's how the light gets in.” - LEONARD COHEN

HERMAN WOUK, the Pulitzer Prize-winning author of “The Caine Mutiny,” died a few days ago ago at 103. His sweeping novels about World War II, the Holocaust and the creation of Israel made him one of the most popular writers of his generation. Wouk wanted to know how so many people in Europe and America allowed the Holocaust to happen. He used his novels to look at the various psychological mechanisms and sociopolitical rationalizations that enabled intelligent, generally well-meaning and well-informed individuals to justify or ignore what was right in front of them. People with good intentions, not consciously monstrous, became nonetheless oblivious to cruelty and injustice and these evils were normalized. We are living in a country where a fascist lover has been elected president. Trump's words are awful. The consequences of his acts can harm people for years to come. Yet, I see the same reasoning described in Wouk's books coming from supposedly educated people, who are fed up with politics in general. Their reaction was to elect and support another politician with the same demagogue and populist ethos that we found in 1930s Germany. WILL HISTORY REPEAT ITSELF?
18.
My thoughts and prayers are with those impacted by these devastating fires in the North Bay.
19.
Another senseless tragedy. My heart goes out to the families of those impacted and I offer my condolences.

Supreme Court Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg died today at 87. She meant so much to our country and her legacy will continue to inspire our struggle for a more just America. "Our nation has lost a justice of historic stature," Chief Justice John Roberts said. Ginsburg's death will have profound consequences for the court and the country. It was her legal crusade for women's rights that ultimately led to her appointment to the U.S. Supreme Court.

George Floyd, 46, died Monday in Minneapolis, the city he moved to for a better life. His last moments were caught on video. While being arrested, Floyd was held down by a police officer's knee. The video shows Floyd pleading that he is in pain and can't breathe. Then, his eyes shut and the pleas stop. He was pronounced dead shortly after. This video is like a macabre documentary of current events. Death is too intimate a phenomenon to not be distorted by a mass audience. Yesterday, very few of us knew who George Floyd was, what he cared about, how he lived his life. Today, we know him no better except for the grim way in which he died.
