The American people must make a fundamental decision. Do we continue the 40-year decline of our middle class and the growing gap between the very rich and everyone else, or do we fight for a progressive economic agenda that creates jobs, raises wages, protects the environment and provides health care for all? Are we prepared to take on the enormous economic and political power of the billionaire class, or do we continue to slide into economic and political oligarchy? These are the most important questions of our time, and how we answer them will determine the future of our country.

Ali tours the world to tell his riveting story of violent activism, imprisonment, bereavement and his eventual discovery of non-violent resistance. "The Jews are not my enemy; their fear is my enemy. We must help them to stop being so afraid – their whole history has terrified them – but I refuse to be a victim of Jewish fear anymore".

“POLITICS IS THEATER. It doesn't matter if you win. You make a statement. You say, "I'm here, pay attention to me.” - Harvey Milk credits

“Science has made enormous inroads in understanding climate change and its causes, and is beginning to help develop a strong understanding of current and potential impacts that will affect people today and in coming decades. This understanding is crucial because it allows decision makers to place climate change in the context of other large challenges facing the nation and the world. There are still some uncertainties, and there always will be in understanding a complex system like Earth’s climate. Nevertheless, there is a strong, credible body of evidence, based on multiple lines of research, documenting that climate is changing and that these changes are in large part caused by human activities. While much remains to be learned, the core phenomenon, scientific questions, and hypotheses have been examined thoroughly and have stood firm in the face of serious scientific debate and careful evaluation of alternative explanations.” — United States National Research Council, Advancing the Science of Climate Change Of most concern is the increase in CO2 levels due to emissions from fossil fuel combustion, followed by aerosols (particulate matter in the atmosphere) and the CO2 released by cement manufacture.

THE FLINT WATER CRISIS is a drinking water contamination crisis in Flint, Michigan that started in April 2014. After Flint changed its water source from treated Detroit Water and Sewerage Department water to the Flint River, its drinking water had a series of problems that culminated with lead contamination, creating a serious public health danger. The corrosive Flint River water caused lead from aging pipes to leach into the water supply, causing extremely elevated levels of lead. In Flint, between 6,000 and 12,000 children have severely high levels of lead in their blood and experienced a range of serious health problems. The documentary filmmaker MICHAEL MOORE, born in Flint, called for Governor of Michigan, Rick Snyder's arrest for mishandling the water crisis in an open letter to the governor, writing: "The facts are all there, Mr. Snyder. Every agency involved in this scheme reported directly to you. The children of Flint didn't have a choice as to whether or not they were going to get to drink clean water." Actor and clean drinking water advocate MATT DAMON has also called for Snyder's resignation. NONTOMBI NAOMI TUTU, daughter of Desmond Tutu, said in a speech at the University of Michigan–Flint, "We actually needed the people of Flint to remind the people of this country what happens when POLITICAL EXPEDIENCY AND FINANCIAL CONCERNS OVERSHADOW JUSTICE AND HUMANITY.”

A friend of mine just came back from 6 weeks in Israel. He sent emails to 25 friends reporting his findings and impressions of the conflict in Israel. I must applaud his effort to try to understand this seemingly eternal conflict. Over the 6 weeks many of the email recipients expressed their strong feelings about the conflict. The tone of these “conversations” became more and more dogmatic and personal. As the son of a Rabbi, it deeply saddens me that once again, religion divides rather than unites. Tragedy is when both sides are 100% right. We are all on the same side.

Too many guns. States with stricter gun control laws have fewer deaths from gun-related violence.

Gridlock 03:02
In politics, gridlock refers to a situation when there is difficulty passing laws that satisfy the needs of the people. A government is gridlocked when the ratio between bills passed and the agenda of the legislature decreases.

Free At Last 03:39
Hannah Arendt traces the origins of the concept of FREEDOM to the practice of politics in ancient Greece. According to her study, the concept of freedom was historically inseparable from political action. Politics could only be practiced by those who had freed themselves from the necessities of life, so that they could attend to the realm of political affairs. According to Arendt, the concept of freedom became associated with the Christian notion of freedom of the will, or inner freedom, around the 5th century C.E. and since then, freedom as a form of political action has been neglected, even though, as she says, freedom is "the raison d'être of politics."

about

Political REVOLUTIONS, far from being impractical pipe dreams, have been one of the most important methods for moving history decisively forward. Bernie Sanders' call for revolution resonates with many people because we are living in an era with levels of injustice and inequality similar to those that in the past have produced revolutions.
